Utopia of safety

MIXXX’s second evening took place on June 23rd in the garden of Tolhuistuin, on the eve of the NATO summit in The Hague. On this intimate summery evening, 50 guests came together to reflect on Utopias of Safety.

Following an opening performance by EL MO collective, the evening began with two lectures: one by Casper Thomas, who spoke about geopolitical developments concerning security, and one by Ilinca Manolache, who explored the social psychology of safety.

Next, Ties Klinkhamer, Baukje Harmsma, and Mostafa Hilali delivered their pitches about their personal utopias of safety, surrounded by the audience, who were then invited to ask questions and discuss.

Afterwards, a MIXXX editorial team member led an interactive workshop—inspired by Imagining Futures from the Jewish Museum—in which everyone could share their own vision of a safety utopia.

The evening concluded with a final musical set by the EL MO collective.
